Hypnotherapy and IBS

Is IBS taking over your life, both mentally and physically?

Hello, I’m Susanne, a hypnotherapist specialising in helping women calm the symptoms of IBS.

I was drawn to this field because there are 40 years of scientific research showing the long-term benefits of gut-directed hypnotherapy for IBS. In fact, it’s recommended by the NHS for that very reason.

However, in my experience, I quickly realised that—without exception—my clients had an emotional or physical trigger before their IBS symptoms began. From childhood bullying to complications after surgery, something always came first.

That’s why I trained further in trauma therapy. During this time, I was chatting with my daughters and casually mentioned how lucky I was not to have experienced trauma. They raised their eyebrows and said, Mum!! It made me realise—we often dismiss difficult experiences as ‘just life.’ But really, they’re what I call life’s laundry—the things we carry that weigh us down.

Maybe that resonates with you. If so, I’d love to help.

I’m very proud of my 49 five-star Google reviews, and many of my clients mention how warm and cosy my therapy room is. But more importantly, they leave feeling lighter—healing from the past, calming anxiety, soothing emotional triggers, and resolving limiting self-beliefs.

If you’re curious about whether hypnotherapy is right for you, I offer a free 20-minute chat to answer any questions and see if we’re a good fit. If you’re ready to heal your past and enjoy your future, get in touch now. I’d love to hear from you.

The science bit – but in plain English.

Hypnotherapy for IBS isn’t just a ‘maybe it helps’ kind of thing – it’s been properly researched and shown to work for 70–80% of people with IBS. That’s a big number.

It helps reduce both the physical and emotional symptoms (because let’s be honest, they’re totally linked), and it’s been especially effective for people who didn’t get much relief from other treatments.

Even in really severe cases, hypnotherapy has made a difference – and the best bit? The improvements have been shown to last at least 5 years. No side effects. No meds. Just your brain doing clever things when it’s given the space to.

If you’re someone who likes the science behind it all here’s is a link to Professor Peter Whorwell’s ground-breaking research into IBS and hypnotherapy.
